We’ve pulled some of the most frequently asked questions from our guests and compiled them all into one place. Chances are you’ve got the same questions that were on someone else’s mind. Should you have any other questions that we may have missed, don’t hesitate to reach out.

🔑 General Housing & Admission

Q1. Is Cornerstone Coves an assisted living facility?
No. Cornerstone Coves is not an assisted living facility or nursing home. Staff does not provide help with daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, taking medication, or transportation. If you require assistance, you must arrange it through an outside provider.

Q3. Will I be able to qualify with a previous eviction, poor credit, and/or criminal history?
Yes. These circumstances do not automatically disqualify you. Applicants are mostly considered based on current behavior, stability, and willingness to follow house rules. Admittance is subject to management approval.

Q3. Is this considered a lease or rental agreement?

No. This is not a lease. You are a licensee, which means you have permission to occupy a bed under specific conditions. Management may revoke this license at any time for rule violations or at their discretion.

🚫 Rules, Behavior & Dismissal

Q4. Are drugs or alcohol allowed on the property?
No. There is a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol, illegal drugs, and non-prescribed medications. Possession or use is grounds for immediate dismissal.

Q5. Can I be drug tested?
Yes. Staff may request a urine drug test at random or if there is a reasonable suspicion (e.g., erratic behavior or discovery of paraphernalia).

Q6. What happens if I break a rule?
Rule violations may result in:

  • Counseling

  • Fines

  • Loss of deposit

  • Immediate dismissal

  • Seizure of personal items (in accordance with Texas Property Code)

Q7. What are the quiet hours?
Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 9 AM. Lights must be turned off at that time to support a respectful, peaceful environment for all residents.

Q8. Can I have visitors?
Visitors are allowed only with prior written approval from management. Unauthorized visitors are strictly prohibited. No overnight guests are allowed.

Q9. Can I have pets?
No. Pets are not allowed under any circumstances.

🧹 Chores, Cleanliness & Cooperative Living

Q10. Am I responsible for cleaning my room and common areas?
Yes. All residents must:

  • Keep personal and shared spaces clean

  • Wash laundry at least once per week

  • Complete assigned chores as directed by staff

Q11. What happens if I refuse to do chores or leave trash around?
Failure to participate in chores or maintain cleanliness may result in:

  • Verbal or written warnings

  • Fines

  • Dismissal from the property

Q12. Will I be assigned house chores?
Yes. Chores are assigned by staff and rotate regularly. Everyone must contribute to maintain a clean and respectful living environment.

💰 Payments, Deposits & Rent Policies

Q13. When is rent due and how is it paid?
Rent is due on the 1st of each month, depending on your income schedule. Payments are typically made through a third-party representative payee or online using a mobile app. Weekly payment plans are also available, with payment due each Tuesday.

Q14. What happens if I cannot pay?
If rent is not paid, you may:

  • Be required to vacate the property

  • Have a lien placed on your personal belongings

  • Lose your right to stay

Please notify staff as early as possible if you are having financial difficulties.

Q15. Is my deposit refundable?
Your deposit may be refunded only if:

  • You give at least 30 days’ notice

  • Your room is left clean and undamaged

  • There are no pest infestations caused by you

  • You follow all check-out procedures

Deductions may be made for damages or rule violations.

🐜 Pest Control & Cleanliness Standards

Q16. What if I find bed bugs, roaches, or pests?
Cornerstone Coves treats for pests regularly. You are expected to keep your space clean. If pests are discovered and determined to be introduced by you or your guests, you will be financially responsible for:

  • Treatment costs

  • Cleaning

  • Relocation expenses for other residents if required

Failure to cooperate may result in eviction.

🚚 Moving Out & Transfers

Q17. What is considered “moving out”?
You are considered to have moved out when you:

  • Give 30 days notice

  • Remove all personal belongings

Q18. Can I transfer to another Cornerstone Coves location?
Yes. Management reserves the right to relocate you to another property at their discretion. Any costs or inconvenience from relocation are your responsibility.

🧍‍♂️ Social Living Environment

Q19. What kind of people will be in the home?
Residents come from various backgrounds and include individuals:

  • Transitioning from unstable housing

  • Living on fixed incomes

  • Seeking community and structure
    All residents must follow the same rules and contribute to a respectful group setting.

Q20. What if I don’t get along with others in the home?
Mutual respect is expected. If conflicts arise, staff may step in, but continued disruptive behavior can result in being asked to leave the home.

🧳 Belongings, Storage & Mail

Q24. Do you offer storage or allow large personal items?

No. We do not have onsite storage and cannot accommodate furniture or excessive belongings (e.g., large boxes, totes, or bags). Each resident shares 3–4 feet of closet space and one large dresser.

To keep our environment clean and safe, clutter (including spare tires, moving boxes, etc.) is not allowed. One verbal warning will be given; after that, items may be removed or donated.

Working on vehicles or scooters is not allowed on the property or in front of the home.

Q25. Can I have mail sent to the home?
No. You may not receive mail at the property. We recommend setting up a P.O. Box or arranging mail delivery through a friend, family member, or local service.

📷 Security, Surveillance & Entry


Q26. Are there cameras in the home?
Yes. Cameras are installed in common areas and outside the home for security purposes only. There are no cameras inside bedrooms or bathrooms. All residents must be comfortable with this setup.

Q27. Can I disable or tamper with the cameras?
No. Tampering with security equipment is strictly prohibited and may result in fines or immediate dismissal from the home.

Q28. Who has access to the home keys?
Only the house manager has a physical key. All residents will receive their own personal code to unlock the front door.

🧾 Chores, Fines & House Management


Q29. Who assigns weekly chores?
The house manager is responsible for assigning and rotating weekly chores.

Q30. Can I be fined for breaking rules?
Yes. Fines are typically $10 per rule violation. Repeated offenses may result in dismissal from the home.

🔍 Background Checks & Application Process


Q31. Is a background check required?
Yes. All applicants must submit to a background check as part of the screening process. (Credit History, Criminal History, Eviction History, Income Verification)

Q32. Do I have to pay for the background check?
Yes. There is a non-refundable $55 fee paid by the applicant to cover the cost of the background check. Payment does not guarantee admittance into the home.

Q33. Will you have access to my Social Security Number or payment info?
No. Your Social Security Number and payment details are handled by a secure, third-party background check provider. Staff at Cornerstone Coves do not have direct access to this information.

Q34. How can I decide if this home is a good fit before applying?
Please read through all information on the website thoroughly before paying the application fee. Make sure the house rules, structure, and community environment align with your needs and preferences.
